Our Challenge.
Young learners are shaped by their interactions with the world, the adults around them, and by making meaning of their experiences, regardless of where they happen. From birth through age 18, a child spends 87% of their waking hours outside of a K-12 classroom. Out-of-School (OST) opportunities are decentralized, allowing for diverse offerings, but also leading to various barriers to accessing opportunities. Different individuals experience these barriers in different ways and to different degrees, leading to inequitable access to Out-of-School learning. No one program, organization, or sector can create systems level change to ensure equitable, accessible, and enriching OST learning for all students in Teton County, WY.
Our Approach.
Systems of Education aims to ensure every learner can experience success as a young adult by making out-of-school learning, from early childhood through 12th grade, more equitable, accessible, and enriching for all young people in Teton County, WY. In 2023, Systems of Education approached the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole seeking support in housing the Backbone Leader of Systems of Education. Through its support of this position, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole has helped secure designated staff capacity for facilitating strategy development, aligning initiative activities, cultivating broader community engagement and representation, and developing access to additional financial resources.
